Pioneer Day lands Friday, and this year the whole county pitches in on one show. Crews are floating barges onto Utah Lake to light the sky at 10, a first-of-its-kind fireworks night that pulls American Fork, Lindon, Vineyard, and Lehi around the same water. You told us last week that Steel Days and Fiesta Days ran neck and neck, and Fiesta Days gets the last word this Friday with its closing rodeo and the valley's big Twenty-Fourth parade. Provo counters with a free pioneer bash at North Park, and if the heat has beaten you down, there's a cold-water boardwalk up the canyon that stays cooler than your driveway.

Utah County lights its first fireworks over Utah Lake

For the first time, Utah County is putting on a single countywide fireworks show, and it's happening out over the water. On Friday, July 24, crews float barges onto Utah Lake and light the sky at 10pm, a Pioneer Day finale meant to pull the whole west side of the valley around one shoreline instead of a dozen scattered backyard shows. The organizers put it together in about eleven days, with the Utah Lake Authority, the county, and the state's forestry and fire crews all signing off, and they're already calling it the start of a new tradition. American Fork Marina and Lindon Marina are the built-in front-row seats, but any stretch of open public shoreline works, and boats can watch from the water if they follow the rules.

⏰Timing: American Fork and Lindon marinas are the two spots built for parking and a clean sightline. Note the lake rule while you plan: paddleboards and other non-motorized boats have to be off the water after dark, so this is a from-shore or from-a-motorboat night.
Our take
Utah County has thrown Pioneer Day to its cities for years, everyone lighting their own patch of sky. This is the first time the whole county goes in on one show, and floating it out over Utah Lake gives it a mirror the size of a small sea. Free, ten o'clock, no ticket, no gate. If it lands the way the organizers hope, this becomes the thing the west side of the valley plans its Twenty-Fourth around.
⚠️ Heads up: It's a first-year event with free open viewing, so the marinas will fill early and the exits will crawl once it's over. Roll in with a blanket before sunset and be patient getting out.

A bone-dry summer keeps the valley's fireworks on a short leash

It's been one of the driest, most fire-prone summers in memory, and the valley is heading into Pioneer Day weekend with the foothills tinder-dry. That's keeping fireworks rules tight: personal fireworks are legal only in a narrow window this week, they stay banned on every canyon and stretch of public land around the valley, and the cities closest to the mountains are holding the firmest limits. It's also part of why the county put together one big professional show over Utah Lake rather than leaving the night to a thousand backyards.

Utah Lake gets a new nonprofit built to pay for its comeback

The Utah Lake Authority just launched a nonprofit arm, the Utah Lake Foundation, to raise private money for the lake's long recovery. The lake has clawed back real ground in recent years, cleaner water, more recreation, native fish returning, but most of that work runs on about $1.5 million a year in state money plus grants. The foundation is the Authority's bet that community donations can keep the momentum going for trails, education, and conservation instead of letting the progress stall.

🤠 Fiesta Days Rodeo rides its final nights in Spanish Fork

Spanish Fork's Fiesta Days closes out with its PRCA rodeo, running nightly through Pioneer Day at the fairgrounds down south. The Friday, July 24 finale stacks the whole town's celebration into one day: the big Twenty-Fourth parade rolls down Main and Center at 9am, and the rodeo's closing performance leads into a fireworks show after dark.

Our take
This is the south end's version of a hometown Fourth, and it's been building all week. The rodeo is the anchor, PRCA bareback and bulls and barrel racing under the lights, but the Friday finale is the one people circle: a morning parade that packs Main Street, then the closing ride and fireworks to send the holiday off. Down south, this is Pioneer Day.
⚠️ Heads up: Closing night sells the best seats first, and parking near the fairgrounds tightens up fast on the 24th. Buy the rodeo ahead and plan to walk a few blocks in.

🥧 Provo's free Pioneer Day Extravaganza takes over North Park

Provo throws its Pioneer Day Extravaganza on Friday, July 24 at North Park, four free hours of old-fashioned town-picnic stuff: sack races, a root beer chug, a petting zoo, food trucks, live music, and a pie contest with ten local bakers judged by the mayor. It runs 10am to 2pm and it's built for kids.

⏰Timing: Come hungry and come early. The Pie-oneer bake-off puts ten local pies on the judging table, and between a petting zoo, an axe-throw, and a root beer chug there's more here to burn off kid energy than a morning at home. Shade goes first, so claim a spot under a tree.
Our take
No tickets, no gate, just a park full of sack races and a petting zoo with a couple of micro pigs in it. It's the kind of free morning that wears the kids out and costs you a few bucks in food-truck lunch. For a family Pioneer Day that doesn't involve fighting for a fireworks curb after dark, this is the easy yes.

🥕 Highland's Thursday-night farmers market

Highland runs its farmers market on Thursday evenings, not the usual weekend morning, 5 to 9pm through early October. It's one of the county's few true weeknight markets, timed so you can swing by after work and walk out with dinner.

Our take
A weeknight market is a different animal than the Saturday crush. Highland's runs from after-work into the evening, which turns picking up peaches and bread into an actual outing instead of a chore squeezed into a busy morning. North county's been short on good weeknight options, and this one fills the Thursday slot.

Pizzeria Seven Twelve, Orem

Pizzeria Seven Twelve has been Orem's original wood-fired pizza spot since 2007, chef-owned and built around a blistering oven and a menu that leans on whatever produce is in season. The pizzas are the draw, but the small plates, short ribs over creamy polenta, do real work too.

⏰Timing: Start with the house pita and hummus that lands for free, then order a wood-fired pie and let the char do the talking. The pepperoni with a hot-honey drizzle is the one regulars send you toward.
Our take
Nearly twenty years in, this is still the valley's benchmark for real wood-fired pizza, thin and blistered and not trying to be a chain. What keeps it interesting is a kitchen that changes the menu with the season, so the pies and small plates you get in July aren't what you got in February. Order the hot-honey pepperoni, split the short ribs, and you've got a dinner that beats the strip-mall options all around it.

Cascade Springs, up the Alpine Loop

Cascade Springs is a set of spring-fed pools and small waterfalls above American Fork Canyon, laced together by a flat boardwalk you can walk in twenty minutes. The water comes out of the mountain cold and clear enough to watch trout hang in the pools, and the whole spot sits high enough to stay cool while the valley bakes.

⏰Timing: This is the move on a heat-wave afternoon: the springs run cold year-round and the boardwalk is shaded and flat enough for strollers and grandparents both. Come over the Alpine Loop for the scenic drive and you've turned a short walk into a half-day.
Our take
Everybody defaults to the same canyon waterfalls until they're elbow to elbow. Cascade Springs is the quieter payoff: turquoise pools, board-walked and easy, cold air coming off the water while the valley floor cooks. Fifteen minutes of flat walking for a spot that feels ten degrees cooler than where you parked that morning.

Utah County's median home price is knocking on $520K

The valley's housing market keeps climbing: through the first months of 2026, the median home sale price in Utah County has run right around $520,000, with single-family houses averaging closer to $600,000 and townhomes near $425,000. It's the steady squeeze behind every new subdivision on the west side, and the reason a starter home here now costs what a move-up home did a few years back. Prices have leveled off from their wildest run, but they haven't come down.
